Phil has been involved in the London residential construction industry, specifically on high end, super prime residential projects since 2002. His core focus is on delivering the finest quality finishes for discerning clients. His talents lie in working to set budgets and constrictive programmes, within a logistically demanding environment.
Phil’s contracts have included the renovation of some of London’s finest listed Grade I and II* properties, as well as new build fit-out projects for some of the capital’s most sought after apartments. Phil has developed a reputation for delivering projects to exacting standards which you’ll see reflected in our testimonials. Accustomed to working with demanding clients, Phil has a clear understanding of what a project’s priorities are and aims to over-deliver on each and every Cheevers Howard venture.
Ben has worked in the high end refurbishment market since 2000. In recent years his role has evolved to see him leading the sales and marketing team while his secondary focus is on the strategic positioning and growth of the brand. Quality control is at the heart of Cheevers Howard’s brand strategy, and Ben’s keen eye for detail is shared by the company’s founding partners and passed down to the rest of the team.
Ben has fostered many strong client relationships and has been trusted to buy and sell property stock on their behalf. He also has good relationships with market-leading architects and interior design teams both at home and abroad, relationships that clients are often keen to capitalise on.
Derek has enjoyed 15 years working in the UK construction industry and has focused his attentions on high end, super prime residential projects in London since 2004. He’s delivered a number of residential projects for private clients, as well as multiple-unit speculative developments.
Derek’s skills lie in the appreciation of what the super prime market demands in terms of quality, but more importantly on how to manage the process to ensure that this quality is achieved on every scheme he commits to.
Darrin Reid has 30 years’ experience within the entire construction industry. He’s focused on the commercial management of projects, from design concept and tender stages, through to on-site management of procurement, design and change control and account management. He’s been involved in a large number of high value multi floor projects, along with complex and challenging alteration and refurbishment projects throughout the UK for many blue chip organisations.
Darrin held several board level positions with a top 5 major contractor for over 10 years before working with Cheevers Howard Construction to develop and strengthen their commercial offer. Darrin has the ability to manage processes, people and companies to the benefit of all parties involved, and he consistently achieves client satisfaction through transparent account and budgetary control.
Cheevers Howard is a residential main contracting construction firm. Focused on the execution of superior finishes, the business enjoys a successful reputation delivering projects of a restoration, refurbishment, new build and interior fit out nature. London is our target market however, requests to consider projects in the Home Counties increase as our reputation for delivering market leading finishes mounts.
Success in this business is as much about skilled craftsmanship as it is about the personalities and attitudes of those you employ. As technology improves, architectural and interior design advances. Complex designs test the connectivity between each organisation involved in the refurbishment cycle. Project Managers, Architects, Interior Designers, Structural Engineers, Service Engineers, Landscape Architects and Contractor are but a few of the different entities involved in any one given cycle. From the creation of a concept to the completion of a project, it is the willingness and skill to collaborate, co-operate and ultimately function as a team that is paramount.
Communication rests at the heart of this.
Our goal is to be the leading main contractor in our industry, offering un-paralleled levels of quality in product and service. We have the right personalities, level of skill (management and trade), methodology and approach to achieve this.
Cheevers Howard is a new company. It was incorporated in March 2013 by its founding directors, Philip Cheevers and Ben Howard. The rationale for beginning our business hinged on a shared passion for excellence; the delivery of market leading construction and refurbishment services.
As individuals we have delivered some of London’s iconic projects of the past decade. From listed buildings in SW1 to SW10 to fit out contracts in SW3 to SW7, Ben and Philip have enjoyed the success of execution on a wide ranging spectrum of projects and designs. From the 25,000 square foot Penthouses of the Bulgari Hotel, Knightsbridge to Lord Elgin’s Stanley House, Chelsea, our team has accomplished the very best the market can offer.
Cheevers Howard is a client focused organisation. As directors, Ben and Philip adopt a hands on approach to each and every project. Site based management staff, although entirely proficient and self-supporting, enjoy an intimate, supporting function from the Cheevers Howard Board. It is the accountability from top down that ensures a sense of shared ownership to both employees and clients.
We have implemented a number of reliable systems and procedures that form our management control policy. These controls are implemented from the beginning of any project and run through to both hand over and indeed our after sales care programme. As a result of these procedures, we know the status of any project at anyone given time. It is this knowledge that arms us with a robust means of tackling the challenges that occur on our projects minimising the threat to programme and budget.
Cheevers Howard prides itself on a unifying ethos that relationships form the foundation of sustainable success. It is the relationship between those at board level and directly employed tradesmen that secure our tenure in the market. It is our reputation that underpins our ability to be awarded repeat business but our relationship and co-operation with Architects and Designers that secures a seamless and continuous delivery of leading finishes. It is the skill and reputation of specialist sub trades that initiates a working commitment but the relationship between such entities that promotes the very best from the individuals involved.
“I am very familiar with the work of the members of the Cheevers Howard team and they have recently completed a project for me in SW1 which has been a great success.
They not only understand the quality of finish that is required in this market but also appreciate how important it is to deliver this on time and on budget.
They ran an open book project where the tenders were negotiated effectively and managed efficiently.
The inevitable finishing and detailing questions were dealt with in a knowledgeable solution based way making the decisions quick and easy to take. Their workers were professional, hardworking and courteous.
Both from my knowledge and experience at the highest level in the London residential market and personal experience with them I would have no hesitation in recommending them for high end work.

I have worked with Phil Cheevers on the successful and much publicised
renovation of a large Chelsea town house for a private Client. He applied his
wealth of construction knowledge to delivering the project to the lofty quality
standards set by the design team, using a hand-picked team of excellent subcontractors
As a Quantity Surveyor, I have found him reasonable and practical; providing quotations well in advance of works being carried out to allow time for Clients to make decisions. This proactive approach really helps us while managing the Client’s budget and expectations.
Phil has continued to offer Construction advice whenever needed and I look forward to working with him and Cheevers & Howard.

We have worked with Phil Cheevers in the past 18 months and this work
entailed working jointly to deliver a prestigious high end retail refurbishment
for the sale of timepieces. The work that was undertaken was in Mount Street
in Mayfair and involved high quality bespoke cabinetry, new services including
comfort cooling and other fine finishes normally seen in the private residential
Phil and his team ensured the delivery of the project was undertaken in a professional manner and the completed project has proven to be well received by those who have been to the finished project.

Kaizen Furniture have been working in the central London super prime
residential sector for 18 years. Large scale projects involving numerous trades
can only be successful when professionally co-ordinated by a competent main
contractor or project manager. I’m happy to recommend Phil Cheevers and
Ben Howard of Cheevers Howard, as very good main contractors and project
managers. They have a good eye for detail and quality and we like working
with them. Their ability to communicate information and as a result co-ordinate
precision quality is the story behind their success. We’ve worked with Phil and
Ben for many years when they operated under the banner of a long established
main contractor. As we both know, every successful project is dependent on the
individuals that form the management team.

Works were recently carried out by Cheevers Howard on a neighbouring
property within our building. Being Londoners, we are sadly very used to
construction works being conducted within close proximity, often with a very
negative impact. Our recent experience has been a complete contrast and we
have been impressed with the genuine consideration deployed by Cheevers
Howard, its directors and indeed tradesmen. From the start, the company’s
communication has been impeccable. For us this has been extremely helpful
and reassuring. The areas surrounding the property have always been
kept tidy. Should anyone be enduring works in their vicinity, they would be
fortunate to have Cheevers Howard conducting them. I would not hesitate in

Powell Tuck Associates worked with Philip on a large residential project in
Notting Hill. The project was approximately 7500 sq ft and comprised of a
new basement and virtually full rebuild of the house. Philip was the CQS and
Contract Manager for the contractor we used. Philip was a pivotal element in
the project’s successful delivery. Philip is an extremely driven and experience
contractor with a track record of delivering and working on very demanding
and high specification projects in London.
Our practice is currently hoping to engage Cheevers & Howard on a residential project.
